Topic of the Week 7/18/11

Movies entertain us, they make us think, they make us cry, they even make us laugh. What movies are on your top 10 list? Why those films? What is it about them that makes them unforgettable? Was it the storyline that captivated you or a particular actor in the film?

Have you seen any movies this summer (“Harry Potter,” “Bad Teacher,” “Zookeeper”)? Please give a short review of any movie you’ve seen this summer (on the big screen or on dvd). What made the film great in your opinion, or on the flipside, what made it a flop in your opinion?

Let me start off by saying that my taste in movies ranges in variety. I love everything, and I don’t have a particular favorite genre. But I do pay attention to certain directors

1.Kill Bill Vol. 1- This movie is the reason I started paying attention to films. After watching this I discovered that films can go beyond the typical. You can do anything with film just like you can with books. I also love Quentin Tarantino as a director. He has a dark sense of humor which I throughly enjoy.

2. Fox and the Hound – I love disney movies and this is my all time favorite! I am 20 years old and I still cry my eyes out every time I watch this tear jerker. It’s just too precious.

3. Dawn of the Dead (original and remake)- I love zombie movies and I feel like George A. Romero and Zack Snyder did an excellent job in making these films.

4. Pans Labyrinth- This was another life changing movie for me. I love how visually beautiful this film is and I speak spanish so this movie to me was great! I also love the director, Guerillimo De Toro.

5. The Sandlot- this movie was such a big part of my child hood! my brother and I would watch this movie over and over again. I can still recite all the lines.

6. All the Harry Potter films- Oh yeah I’m a Harry Potter nerd and proud of it! Of course I read all the books and have seen all the movies, so these films have shaped my life for the past ten years.

7. The Hangover- this is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen!

8. Pulp Fiction- Can you tell Tarantino is my fav? this is a cult classic film that I can and do watch over and over again. At first it is a little confusing but once you watch it the whole way thru you get what is going on.

9. Inception- I thought this movie was so original and so well done! from the actors to the wardrobe to the way the director filmed it. I also am obsessed with leo.

10. Blood Diamond- I don’t know why but I am in love with this movie but I am! I could watch it for days!

I recently saw Horrible Bosses and it was one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in quiet a while. I love how nasty Jennifer Aniston was and how Kevin Spacey was a complete jerk! I thought the plot was great and there are unexpected twists which is great. It also made me realize how old I am getting because I was attracted to all the male leads and two years ago I would have never thought they were attractive haha.

  1. We have quite different movies choices, but one definite thing in common–I LOVE Harry Potter too!!
Inception was incredible and thanks for your little review on Horrible Bosses–I think I may go see it now :)

  2. Definitely am a huge Harry Potter fan too! Also, I wish I would’ve thought of Inception. I’ve only seen it once, and I really need to see it again because it was one of those movies that left me confused at the end.

I need to see Horrible Bosses! I’ve heard mixed reviews on it, but I’m a fan of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, so I like Charlie haha
